El jugador norteamericano, de origen vietnamita, se proclamó Campeón del Mundo en Las Vegas, tras superar en el mano a mano final al jovencísimo Gordon Vayo.

Las World Series of Poker 2016 han finalizado oficialmente este miércoles, coincidiendo casi con el inicio de la Battle of Malta de PokerListings. Tres jugadores llegaron al último día de competición del November Nine, que había reunido a los mejores jugadores en la mesa final.

Cliff Josephy, Gordon Vayo y Qui Nguyen eran los postulantes al brazalete de campeón, y ninguno de ellos quería dejar escapar la oportunidad de alcanzar la gloria.

Jornada de altos vuelos

El día definitivo comenzó con emociones fuertes, Cliff Josephy consiguió doblarse inmediatamente nada más empezar a costa de Qui Nguyen, obteniendo así el segundo puesto en la clasificación entre los tres norteamericanos.

Esta sería una de las manos destacadas, y es que la acción fue constante, con cambios de liderato y buen poker para divertir a los espectadores que pudieron seguirlo a través de la ESPN, cadena que tenía los derechos en exclusiva de los mismos para todo el mundo.

Tras todo ello, Nguyen se vengaría de Josephy y dejaría a Gordon Vayo que rematara al veterano jugador y patrocinador americano. Algo menos de 3,5 millones de dólares fue el premio que se llevó el tercer puesto de estas WSOP 2016.

Vayo, líder en el mano a mano

 

Gordon Vayo, al contrario que en el inicio de la jornada, acumulaba el 60% de las fichas al inicio del mano a mano con Qui Nguyen. Sin embargo, la alegría no le duraría demasiado al joven jugador estadounidense.

Media hora le bastó a Nguyen para tomar el control nuevamente de la acción y colocarse por delante.

Con ochenta millones en su bote de fichas, Nguyen se movió all-in y puso la primera piedra de camino a la victoria. Vayo tuvo que pensar durante siete minutos qué hacer con esta acción de su rival de origen vietnamita antes de mover las cartas hacia el centro de la mesa para abandonar la acción.

Sin embargo, este golpe pudo contestarlo solo dos manos más tarde. Nguyen había acumulado el 80% de las fichas, y Vayo aprovechó para doblarse y colocarse nuevamente al frente. Así, ambos jugadores se intercambiaron fichas durante más de seis horas.

Tras 182 manos de heads-up, llegaría la mano que decantaría el Campeón del Mundo de Poker 2016. Nguyen se movió a 8,5 millones de fichas desde el botón, y Vayo respondió con un all-in por 53 millones de fichas. Algo que vio rápidamente el líder de la partida.

Vayo mostró su J♠ 10♠ y Nguyen hizo lo propio con su K♣ 10♣. Ahora, las cartas comunitarias decidirían. K♦ 9♣ 7♦ en el Flop, 2♠ en el Turn, y 3♥ en el River dieron finalmente la victoria a Qui Nguyen, que se llevó a casa un premio de algo más de ocho millones de dólares.

Por su parte, Gordon Vayo se tuvo que conformar con la segunda posición y los algo más de 4,6
